Training - Lehigh Valley Rides and LinksRider

Training

Ride, Ride, Ride!!! That’s the secret to a fun PPRAC. PPRAC traverses a multitude of terrains from flat and boring to riding in the clouds. The best way to enjoy the miles is to get plenty under your belt or saddle. It is recommended to get at least 1,000 to 1,500 miles in prior to August. Developing a regular riding schedule as opposed to cramming the month before PPRAC is the suggested manor of training. If you have never done a ride of this distance, work your way up to longer and longer rides.

Start you training in early spring with 20 to 30 mile rides and work you way up to 70+ mile days by early June. Remember Pennsylvania is quite hilly. Find those tough hills and attack them. Schedule back to back 80+ mile rides in July. They will help you adjust to six days of riding.

No one enjoys training in the rain. Safety is the most important factor. So if you find yourself wanting to experience riding in the rain for a training ride, dress properly and be extremely careful. We have experienced from past rides that mechanical failure and flat tires increase with wet road conditions.

Adequate training will also acquaint you with the minor repair challenges of life on the road. You should be able to fix flats, true a wheel enough to ride, etc. South Mountain Cycles provides excellent support but might be miles away from you when your minor problem arises.

Long training rides will also familiarize you with either carrying your own food or finding it on the route, as well as proper hydration. So get out there and ride your way to a very enjoyable and scenic PPRAC. See you on the roads.

The que sheet is designed to be approximately 8-1/2" x 4-1/2". This size will fit in most handle bar bag covers or map case. They will be laminated to protect from the elements and double sided
